Ballet Hispanico

New

Description

Starting in 1970, Tina Ramirez established Ballet Hispánico following the post-war civil rights movements, creating a space for people of color to congregate, express themselves, and access opportunities in the arts. She viewed education as a vital component to the growth of the organization, extending its reach internationally. In 2009, Eduardo Vilaro, former company member from 1988 to 1996, stepped in as the Artistic Director, reigning in a new era of Ballet Hispánico. Today, Eduardo Vilaro spearheads the vision that Tina began, representing the power and freedom of dance through education and artistic prestige.

With an ongoing tenure of fifty five years, Ballet Hispánico has evolved into the largest Latino cultural organization in the United States and heralded as one of America’s Cultural Treasures by the Ford Foundation. Exploring Latino cultures through innovative dance productions and transformative training, it is the leading voice intersecting artistic excellence, high caliber dance education, and advocacy - planted by the virtuous mission inculcated by Tina Ramirez and boldly driven by Artistic Director & CEO, Eduardo Vilaro today.
